About Us

The It Takes A Village – Maternal Health Expo came about in Fall 2021. After trying for a year to start Prime BabyTime Consulting, a postpartum doula support business for families that have just delivered babies, it became apparent to Patricia Prime that not many people knew what a doula was let alone a postpartum doula. Patricia Prime reached out to friends and family in her community and asked if they would be willing to work together to put on an event in which anyone who provides any support to expecting families would be in one space educating the community on what they do. We hosted the first expo at Rozar Park in Perry Georgia, on April 9, 2022. We had counselors, physical therapists, physicians, hospital representatives, managed care organizations, the local health department, bakers, party planners, and local organizations that worked with women and children. The event was received well in the community so the following year we hosted the 2nd annual expo in the same place on April 15th. In 2024, we decided to mobilize and take the event to another community in the area. The goal is to have the expo in various communities in the Central Georgia area so that education and resources can get into the hands of our people.

The organization was established and approved as a nonprofit in November 2023. The mission is to educate the community/village on ways to keep maternal families safe.

Our purpose is to provide education to the community on ways to keep maternal families safe by promoting mothers’ lives, health, and well-being.

“A In the Central Georgia area, we are number two in the state for maternal mortality and African American women again are three times more likely to die. It is alarming is that 48% of maternal deaths happened within 0-60 days postpartum and 89% of maternal deaths were preventable. It is also alarming that our black babies are dying at a rate of 2 to 3 times more than white babies before their first birthday.”
